Comics

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

It’s been ages and ages since I have seen a comic book. I don’t even know where to find comic books for sale. I used to walk down to the corner drug store and buy my comic books with my allowance money. I used to pay 10 cents for a comic about “Archie” and his friends or “Mickey Mouse” and Donald Duck. When I got a little older I liked the “Millie the Model” comic books. I wonder if any of these are still in print?

Old Tee Shirts

Friday, October 9th, 2009

A friend has a big stack of old rock and roll tee shirts. You can only wear so many shirts. And the collection continues to grow. So he asked me if there was any way I could take the shirts and make them into a quilt. I think that is a very cool idea. I’ll give it some thought. I might have a new hobby around the corner!

Health Care Debate

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

There was a very interesting article on the NPR web site that compared the health care reform efforts of 1993 and the current campaign. There are commercials from the 1993 and 2009 campaigns from YouTube posted within the article to illustrate their points.

The article make a good argument about media spending and how use of television ads can make or break a campaign – political or otherwise. There was also a 4 minute story that you can hear from a link on the site.

I got fired up enough to make a comment on their site. That’s not like me – but I care about the health care crisis and I just had to say something.

Lots of Oatmeal

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

My daughter in law as being a sweetheart and offered to go grocery shopping for me today. I had a very short list and I’m particular about some brands, so I gave her the list and explained what I needed, then gave her $40 to cover the cost.

She got almost everything right and I’m so grateful for her help. The only problem I have is that she bought a big box of instant oatmeal instead of the regular kind. The instant oatmeal just does not taste as good as the 10 minute oatmeal. I have tried them both and much prefer the regular, longer cooking oatmeal.

So what to do with all this instant oatmeal? Maybe I can donate it to a worthy charity? Or should I bake it into cookies first?
