Easter Dinner

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

We are looking forward to a house full of people later this afternoon. I’ve been busy cleaning up and getting ready to cook dinner for a crowd. It is very different preparing a feast from just cooking a regular quick dinner for one or two people. I’ve had to move things off the counter to make room for all the mixing bowls, pans and what not that I’ll be using.

I hope everyone has a nice time today and that your Easter is nice, as well. If you have little ones in your house, I hope the Easter Bunny finds you and leaves lots of Easter eggs and candies for you to enjoy.

Good Friday

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Today is Good Friday, which does not mean much to people who choose to not go to church, other than most schools are closed today. If you do go to church, this is one of the most significant days of the Easter holidays.

As a child, we always had hot cross buns on Good Friday. Nowadays you rarely even see them in the grocery stores or bakeries. That’s a shame. Another nice tradition fading from American life. I have a recipe that my mother used and I’ll be baking mine from scratch. In fact, I need to get started on them now.

April Violets

violets

The first spring violets are poking through the green leaves in my front yard. There is a patch of little violets and wild strawberries growing near my mailbox. I can’t see them from my window but I walk right by them every day as I collect my mail. I just love the violets. I wish they covered the entire yard.
