Fatherhood and Uncle Sam

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I’m not sure why this web site has the domain extenion .gov but I came it across while researching some information for an article I’m writing. This web site is a clearinghouse of sorts for information related to responsible fatherhood. I suppose someone got a grant from the Government to create this site. It is not particularly well designed and the navigation is not intuitive, but if you are determined to find what you need you can find it eventually.

Americana

Friday, September 19th, 2008

The music genre called Americana Music is a wonderful assortment of the music that I love to hear. I wish there was an Americana Music radio station here so I could listen to my favorite songs on the radio. As it is, I have to buy the CDs of the artists and then put them on my iPod so I can take the music with me in the car.

This week is the annual conference for Americana. There are top notch concerts all over town and all the music heavyweights are here. It has been a week filled with celebrity sightings and lots of excitement for this new industry.

The Hummingbirds Are Back

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Last year we had a flock of hummingbirds in the yard all summer. I was amazed that they stayed for several months, and then one day in October they were gone.

I read on the internet that hummingbirds migrate to Mexico every winter. I find that totally amazing that those little tiny birds can fly so far.

This year I hadn’t seen any of the hummingbirds at all. I was so disappointed. But then all of a sudden, this week we had three of the little birds just show up in my dogwood tree. I’m so glad to see them! I put nectar in the feeder and hung it on the lowest branch of my dogwood tree. Now I can watch them fly about the yard again!

Kids Games

I must have a strange sense of humor. I think I inherited it from my father. He was always telling jokes and riddles, and he loved a play on words. He used to say this all the time:

“I can row a boat. Canoe?”

Today would have been my father’s birthday if he had beaten his cancer. But that didn’t happen and so now I just try to remember him and the good things he used to do.

Learning to Climb

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Can you believe the gumption of this little rascal? She decided she can climb trees and just went at it, full steam.

She got about 4 feet off the ground and then realized that she was in a tree. I wondered how she was going to get down from there. After a good long time, she decided to just jump. And down she came!
