A Peaceful Mother’s Day
Sunday, May 11th, 2008The church was beautiful with large sprays of fresh flowers on each side of the pulpit and long rows of potted mums scattered about the sanctuary. Everything was yellow and white and bright. The Mother’s Day service is always special and this morning was no exception.
We drove over to the cemetery after the worship services to put flowers on Mother’s grave. It was nice to see so many flowers had been brought to decorate the grounds. After all, everyone has or had a mother. I can’t believe we lost Mother over 20 years ago. I still think fondly of her daily and miss her very much.
Cinco de Mayo
Monday, May 5th, 2008We have so many people living in this area from Mexico that the Cinco de Mayo is a huge holiday for tens of thousands of people now. From what I hear, there will be a huge party all weekend at the state fair grounds just for the Mexicans. What a big change that is for the Anglo natives of this area!
Cinco de Mayo is at least worth having a margarita and a taco or burrito today! You don’t have to be Mexican to celebrate! I found a wonderful new Mexican restaurant that just opened. It’s a bit of a drive to get there, but the food is very fresh and carefully prepared, so it is worth the extra few miles. But we are going tonight to celebrate with friends!
