Lunch With Suzi

A few years ago, a group of us ladies decided to get together once a month and have lunch together at a local restaurant. We want to make the effort to be sociable with each other but we also want to support the little local businesses, too. So our once a month lunch will be tomorrow and I’m especially looking forward to seeing my friend Suzi Strauss again.

Suzi moved away two years ago when her husband got a transfer to Chicago. They couldn’t sell their house because the market had started to tank, so they rented it out to a young couple.

Well, its a good thing they didn’t sell it, because her husband got laid off last month and now they’ve moved back here. I wish it was happier circumstances that brought them back to Nashville, but it will be good to see my old friend again regardless.

Hot Dogs

About the only time I’m interested in eating a hot dog is when I am at a sporting event. I especially like a hot dog when I’m watching a summer baseball game. There’s just something about bleachers, ball players and hot dogs that go together!

Depending upon how you define your summer, I think today is about the half way mark of this year’s summer. The kids around here go back to school on August 12. They don’t have much time left of their school vacation.

New Vacuum

My vacuum quit working halfway through my housework. Its not the belt and I can’t find a clog, but it just doesn’t pick up anything any more. I’m so disgusted with these cheap vacuums! It seems like none of them last more than a year. So I have to go up to K-Mart and buy another new vacuum today so I can finish cleaning my house.

Frozen Pizza

The grocery store had frozen pizza on sale, so I decided to get two (for $6.00 !) and have a treat. We almost never eat pizza any more. As a kid, we had pizza at least once a week because my Daddy worked for a pizza restaurant. But as we got older, the calories and fat in a pizza puts the pounds on, so we only have pizza once in a great while. Nowadays the delivery pizza has gotten so expensive, almost $20 for just one pizza, that I can’t afford it except as a special treat once in a while.

Chick Flick Du Jour

I watched the new movie starring George Clooney. It is called “Up in the Air.”

The main character works for a company that is a source for other big companies who need to lay off employees or reduce their workforce. He is a professional firing consultant or something. I don’t think he ever gave his job a name.

It was a good movie. The advertisements did not pique my interest, but I picked up a handful of movies on sale cheap and this movie was one of them. Well worth the $3 that I paid for it, and cheaper than a ticket at the real movie theater.

Nuts to You

Shopping at Sams Club over the weekend, I decided to pick up a large box of assorted nuts. They come in individual packets for snacking, with three different flavors. Each flavor has about 10 packets: honey roasted peanuts, salted peanuts and cashews.

This morning I wanted to grab a packet of cashews to take with me in the car while running errands. Would you believe that ALL the cashew packets are already gone? Who on Earth would eat all 10 packets of cashews in just 3 days?
