Thursday Meetings

One of my good friends always goes to meetings on Thursday nights after work. At first I never questioned what the meetings were about, and he never really expounded on that. It was fine that he went to meetings every week and I knew better then to include him in any plans that might fall on a Thursday because he would not be available.

But like every absolute, we humans like to challenge them on occasion. I imagine that is a big problem for the wives of celebrities, wanting to so something with their spouse or family and being restricted by a schedule. It is always tempting to try to get an exception for one “good reason” or another. But a professional cannot afford the luxury of canceling a commitment or they risk getting a bad reputation for not showing up – and that can be a career killer.

Who is That?

You never know who you will run across when you go out and run errands. Sometimes I see people that I think I should know, but for the life of me I can’t recall their names or where I might know them from. Perhaps they are neighbors that I just don’t see often enough to really know. But then there are days like this morning’s trip to the bank and I see my old buddy, Ed, in the drive through lane next to mine. That was a nice surprise.

Playing Cards

We played cards last night. What fun! It’s been a long time since I held a deck of cards in my hands and shuffled them up. Nowadays we use the computer to do that for us. But it’s not the same.

Do you know how hard it can be to find four people available to come over and sit with you for a couple hours? Do you know how hard it is to find four people who all know the rules for the same card game? We bickered and bargained and ended up playing Hearts – it was the only one we could all agree on. That was great fun for me – and I won 3 of the 5 games!
