They Can’t Find a Broken Law

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Tennessee has been in the news for the past week or so because a distraught women in Shelbyville returned her adopted son to Russia. She said that he has so many mental health issues that she cannot keep him. Past of the uproar has been due to the fact that she put him on an airplane alone – at just 7 years old – with a note to the Russians instead of going on the plane with him. She claims that she arranged for a Russian man to meet the child at the airport in Moscow and take the child to the proper authorities.

The local sheriff says that he cannot find any laws that have been broken by her actions, so he cannot arrest her for anything.

I say, leave the poor woman alone. She has been through a lot this past year or so and what happens to her family is none of our business. She did her best, and that’s all you can ask of anyone.

Change is not always good

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

So now we have our new President duly sworn in and installed in the White House. This is the man who promised America that we will change because of his leadership. I hope that all this change will be for the better, because not all change is good.

For example, our fair city has been growing by leaps and bounds these past few years. A lot of people are moving here from California and from Florida, as well as a gazillion Mexicans. I am not pointing that out as a racist comment. I’m just saying that Nashville is not the same place it was 10 years ago. The population and demographics have changed.

We now have our jails half full of Mexican men who drive drunk, get in knife fights at bars and restaurants, and beat their women and children. The other half is pretty much black men who rob convenience stores and liquor stores, participate in drive by shootings at black nightclubs and in the black neighborhoods, steal cars, and beat their women and children. The handful of white guys in jail are mostly for DUIs, robbing banks, and killing their wives or girlfriends.

It sure didn’t used to be this way 10 years ago and this is one change that I do not like and want to see these problems be made to go away. I don’t think President Obama gives a rats ass about the jails in Nashville, TN but I sure would like to see him make some changes here.

Watch Your Tip Jars

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Several local shops have a tip jar set out on the counter for employees. I try to drop in my loose change or even a dollar if they are pleasant, efficient, and get the order right. I hope the store managers are good about dividing up the proceeds among all the employees at the end of every shift.

Lately there have been reports of tip jars being pilfered by unsavory types. There was an attempted theft of the tip jat at a local coffe shop drive through window. The alert store clerk prevented the theft and called the police. The suspect was caught within the hour – he was found hiding in the landscape shrubbery of a nearby subdivision.

All this drama over about $3.00 in change. How sad for that man that he is going to jail over $3 that he didn’t even get.
